Some also learn more advanced skills such as the use of gum paste or royal icing, for rigid and long-lasting decorative elements such as lifelike flowers and birds, or the lacy ornamentation of a wedding cake. Cake decorators with sculpting skills can also create figures from marzipan or fondant. Decorators and pastry chefs with advanced skills can also create remarkable decorations with chocolate and pulled or spun sugar.
